Happily Ever After?
And they lived happily ever after… Big hustle and bustle… insert one of your favorite stories here… and then they lived happily ever after…
… I think it means, the three dots, fill in the missing parts yourself. Or maybe, leap with your imagination. I think I use it a lot just to indicate the thought continues. As if to say pause, and reflect a little, a bit more than a comma.
But I admit that my relationship with punctuation, english grammer, and the like is a bit one sided.
Anyway, back to happily ever after…
It struck me, what does happily ever after look like? We know well what the hustle and bustle looks like right? If we don’t, we have hundreds if not thousands of movies, millions of books, and a gazzillion stories to give us examples.
I might argue that the happily ever after is individual to each person, or group of people, and that is our’s to decide… somehow too sacrosanct to make a telling of.
Then why so many grandiose tales of the struggle and the strife… and all the telling that comes with that? And then once it’s all climaxed and resolved, the sum of all the rest is left with the line… and they lived happily ever after?
As if, we are happy to tell all the struggles, the drama, the strife you will go through… but someone a three hour long movie about what happens AFTER the evil bad guys are defeated, well…
Where is the movie about 1000 years of peace? Why is that always just a … and the meat is the battle scene …
What compelled me to write this down, oddly enough, is an episode of Scrubbs. It’s an odd show I would have never expected myself to watch, much less enjoy.
Jordan introduced me to it, and I found myself very much enjoying it. The season finale illustrates this remarkable human characteristic of which I reference.
There is a surprisingly lengthy ‘future’ montage in the episode where the character envisions his dream future… very specifically.
Honestly, it made me cry. It made me smile. It’s well worth the time to watch it.
Funny how there is a little something more you can appreciate when you are aware of the intricacies of the characters that come from the stories of the struggle and strife 😉 What a beautiful dance.
I think it’s high time we take the lead in this grand dance with the devil. Here’s an idea on what that might look like.
Let’s create a movie script, a screen play, a story, a song, a stunning visual graphic, about what life could be.
Let’s all make one for ourselves, let’s make one for the groups we live and interact with, and lets make one for the whole of us all, all of us together.
Let it be about the 100000 years of prosperity, joy, respect, celebration… of a grand people who lived as gods, every one of them, in honor with and of the other.
And then let’s ask ourselves… how do we get from here…. to there.
What would it take?
Then let’s make that happen.
All my love,
